TALENTED young pianists have showcased their musical abilities during the City of Toowoomba Eisteddfod.

The musically-gifted youngsters gathered at the Empire Theatre yesterday as the piano section of the competition kicked off.

Piano teacher Ann Dawson was running around to check up on about 30 of her students in a variety of performances including solos, duets and trios.

"Us teachers are going to get really busy running between the two venues to check on our students and try to settle the nerves," Ms Dawson said.

Ms Dawson, from Ann Dawson Piano Studio, said for the past couple of weeks students had been concentrating on eisteddfod pieces and fitting in extra lessons.

"I find that each year the children are becoming less and less nervous," she said.

"I think they are so used to performing in public, at school, and most of my students are really excited and want to go in the eisteddfod.

"Most of them like seeing the others and hearing the other pieces and just being a part of it."

The City of Toowoomba Eisteddfod will continue at the Empire Theatre today with more piano performances. The eisteddfod will run until Sunday.
