Outside Hours School Care
The TACAPS Outside Hours School Care caters for children who are enrolled in our Foundation to Year 6 classes. This includes Before School Care, Afternoon School Care and, in certain holiday periods, Vacation Care. A play-based leisure program is provided within a nurturing community environment. Under the leadership of the Head of Preparatory Years and our OSHC Service Coordinator, the qualified educators organise a program where the children’s engagement in a range of experiences allows them to feel happy, safe and relaxed, and to interact with friends, practise social skills, solve problems, try new experiences, and learn life skills.
Our Vacation Care Program will be held, where demand exists, in a number of key holiday time periods.
Our Outside Hours School Care is located within the Discovery Lab within the Lower Roberts Building, adjacent to our Foundation Classrooms.
The My Time, Our Place Framework is our guide to support the planning and organisation of our Outside School Hours Care programs. The Framework takes a holistic approach with focussed attention on children’s physical, personal, social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing as well as cognitive aspects of learning. (My Time and Our Place, p.13) The fundamental elements of the My Time, Our Place frames the following learning outcomes:
Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity
Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world
Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners
Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators.
Our educators actively encourage all students and families to contribute to the planning of learning experiences for all our programs, based on their interests and ideas. There is continuity of learning between the three programs, which provides children with quality play and leisure activities. Global, national, community and school events are incorporated within our daily, weekly, term and Vacation Care planning.
Our Educators use a variety of strategies to collect, document, organise, and interpret the information that they gather about children’s wellbeing and enrichment to evaluate the effectiveness of their programs. (My Time, Our Place p.16) Completing daily Learning Stories are one of our key tools with information shared including photos, children’s comments and observations. Parents are encouraged to view Learning Stories which are displayed on bench in the OSHC room.
